How do I accessorise with a 50s-style dress?

I'm a bit of a jeans-and-tshirts gal and I need tips on accessorising for a Christmas party!

I just bought a dress which is black and kind-of 50s style - very plain, pencil-skirt-stylee at the bottom, high-necked with a thin belt at the waist. I'm not sure what the best kind of footwear (shoes/strappy-sandals/boots?) to wear and I don't have a clue what kind of accessories or jewellery would coplement it well.

Any tips anyone? How do I accessorise with a 50s-style dress?
Well the 50's was the days of the strings of pearls and clip on earrings etc.

The 60's were the days of hippies with large strings of beads, long skirts %26amp; dresses.

Hope this helps....xXxHow do I accessorise with a 50s-style dress?
Yep, you need chunky beads, chunky belt, retro heels or dollies and some funkyfull earrings!
if you are a simple kinda girl (jeans and tshirt im the same way) but want to make it pop a bit i would wear ballet flats or boots, and pick one bold accessory like if you wear big earings keep it to a simple necklace or not one at all i would pick either pearl or silver accessories but thats just me. good luck hope i helped.
try like some cute red heels and a cute little red bag or black bag with a red handle like a 50s look with some red accessories like red earrings and necklaces i would go to like target or forever 21 i have seen them also like cute red hills look and macys .com they have really cute ones ...good luck
Round toe court shoes with a high heel (patent black or red would look good)

Any jewellery with pearls - the bigger the pearls the better! Or red beads to compliment the red shoes!

Think Marilyn Monroe!
50's style black dress, defiantly white pearls.

Pear necklace, pearl bracelet.

White shoes, white handbag.

It'll look great.
if you have long hair. a pony-tail. round white beads all the same size. flat black shoes bit like pumps with ankle socks or stiletto heels,a red square headscarf, rolled a bit and tied at one side of your neck loosely. large earrings shaped a bit like a flat flying saucer. same colour as your beads. and lace gloves, black. and you will turn heads. enjoy.
Your dress sounds lovely, I really love the vintage style. For footwear stick with black, I know it's nice to wear a bright colour or something that sticks out but to keep with the whole 40's/50's look black would probably look better. I'd recomend wearing peep toe shoes - now you can get the ones that have a back or you can go for a sling back style if you're comfortable with them, personally I find the sling back annoying to walk in... but they look great for that vintage look (think dita von teese) you don't even need to stick to a stiletto heel, you can go for something a bit chunkier if you are more confortable with that and it will still look devine.

For the accessories the first thing i'm going to recomend is painting your nails a nice vampy red, a must have for pin-up girls and it will look great if you do decide to wear peep toe shoes to have your toe nails the same colour. If you'd like to wear a necklace i'd find something simple and not too long if you have a dress with a high neck, it would probably be better to focus on a nice pair of earings. you could go for the clip on look (obviously not clip on, although you can still get them in topshop and urban outfitters) like big round buttons/disks, or you could try something a bit more glam and sparkly, something that dangles down. You don't want to accessorise too much, although your dress is plain, it's still fitted and it has a belt. Perhaps find a nice clutch bag (black would work well) you can get them everywhere nowadays, but if you have any good charity shops or vintage shops near you then you should look for one in there, something with a bit of sparkle. and it will be cheap from a charity shop too, leaving you to spend more on shoes! Hope you enjoy your Christmas party.
I would suggest strappy heels in a metalic colour which would look very nice with Black [Gold or Silver would both go well] and maybe get some big 'chandelier' type earrings to match the shoes. Gold earrings if you shoes are gold, I wouldn't wear silver and gold together as it wouldn't look right. Boots wouldn't look right with a pencil-skirt style dress.

If you do go for big earrings I wouldn't wear a necklace as there would be too much going on, with metallic shoes and also a belt.
