Since when did freedom of speech become saying what you want without consequence?

Ok, some of white america is saying that Imus constitutional rights were violated. There was never a time that he could not say whatever he wants to say. When you are working at any job, there is a certain amount of professionalism.

Some whites say that they would never start a campaign to get someone fired. That is nonsense. I have gone to a resturant and a young waiter had his shirt out along with a young white one. A white table called for management saying how unprofessional that it looked and only pointed out the young black man. We left him a $150.00 tip with a note that said be encouraged. I have been through it, when it was said that my pants suit was too brightly colored, and if I could not subdue my dress style that I need to work elsewhere. This was a client that had a real problem with camel toe. Some try to go after us all the time. We fight back. If people are so angry where is your picket signs, people should be shouting rehire Imus. I do not see that.Since when did freedom of speech become saying what you want without consequence?
You said it perfectly. Imus' rights have not been violated. But he was insulting black women so that makes it not only Ok but a very good thing for many in the white community.Since when did freedom of speech become saying what you want without consequence?
your question has nothing to do with freedom of speech.
That was really good. You're right.
Imus works for the folks that advertise for his show.

Imus is very bright and funny.

There was nothing funny about calling those young ladies ';nappy ho's';.

advertisers withdrew support

Imus was fired.

I expect that he has enough money saved that he won't die of starvation.

I've long believed that comedy is like baseball---if you can hit .333---get a good laugh out of one third of your lines---you can play in the big leagues. But....Imus broke the rules. He may catch on somewhere else, I suspect that after making apology rounds, kissing up to the Jacksons and Sharptons, he will get back on the air in some capacity.

but that's not the point. There are some insults---when directed at one's OWN race and ethnicity, that are funny,

Nappy ho's---not funny.

Imus needs to be sent to his room. Don't know how long his time out will be---but---he deserves it. And---it won't kill him.
Seems you enjoy the issue. Just wait a while soon you will laugh no more. Humans are getting sick of beastly whine.

Equal with special privileges is about to end.
give it up.
I am black and what Imus said doesn't see like a big deal but our black leaders trying to make something out of nothing maybe they want their pocket full I don't know but I can say one thing they are making something small which he was saying something many of our black youth and men are saying about our women but they too need to put a stop on this in order that white or other race will not say black men say it and we have a right to say it to. No one have the right to disrespect anyone I hate to see other race say bad thing about theirs women ,white,spanish,etc... should not be done
Freedom of speech, like all constitutional rights, go as far you can take them so long as you violate no one else's freedoms. Imus didn't violate anyone's freedoms. It is only a matter of fact that what he said is far less ';racist'; or ';racially insensitive'; than what most rappers and comedians say and never are fired for. Carlos Mencia was made by his ';racially insensitive'; jokes, Richard Pryor is a legend and had a huge repetoir of ';racially insensitive'; jokes, the list of ';racially insensitive'; hip hop singers is innumerable. There's a saying in law; Qui Bono, which means ';who benefits';. Don Imus had a comedy show, the only serious man on the show was the guy who regularly told the news and the guy who did the sports. Who benefits from this? Al Sharpton. It's an exercise in strength, in all honesty. To feel that you are the victim of racism based on the speaker's skin is racism itself. These same Rutgers students won't try to get Snoop fired. (I hope not)
